Field Trial Results Autumn 2011

The Field Trial season in The Netherlands started with a very wet summer, lots of rain.... During the trainings it was quite hard to find game in the wet sugar biet fields. Nevertheless the first trial started in early september on the 2nd. The organising club was the Dutch Wiredhaired Club. I had entered the young star Isabella van Ryckevelde, a young dog, but very talentfull and a brilliant GSP stylist... Also I had entered Milano her father..

Isabella made an early point on a pheasant during her run, which was a bit carefull from the start, but went excellent later on. The point she made, was not a brilliant point so an Excellent was out of the question... but first trial I was happy with the very good awarded by Pieter Rooijakkers.

2nd Trial was organised by the Dutch Epagneul Breton Club on the 17th of September. The judge todat was Jocelyne Heageman. Isabella had a brilliant run, very hard hunting, perfect style..Nearly on the end of the field near the edge she came on point.. The bird lifted when I was still on the way to Isabella, she did not move so the point could be clamed. Ofcourse the point was a good point but not excellent... a shame since she ran excellent...Therefore again a Very Good.

During the Trials and backhome I worked on Omi's her stamina. She just had a litter of 10 pups. Omi is a perfect dog in the Autumn Field Trials...

The first Trial where she was entered was at our very own trial on the 23rd of September, I also entered Milano and Isabella. Omi started well, but the weather was very warm so after 11 minutes I put her on the lead. But I was pleased with her run. Milano and Isabella missed a pheasant so they were out.

The second Trial for Omi was on the 26th again a GSP Trial held in Nieuwe Pekela, judges were Peter Eering and Ton Slager. Omi was brilliant in her first run, covering the field enterily, with a bit of a side wind..She hunted fast through the sugar biets, but unfortunately no game for Omi. Isabella already made a point, but she had a bit of trouble with the side wind and the sugarbiet drills.

Omi was given a second run, which she did perfectly. An perfect point on a pheasant wich was trying to get away, but she blocked it perfectly. After the retreive I knew she would end very high in the qualification.

Isabella was rewarded with a 2nd very good (her third) and Omi was rewarded with a 1st Excellent CACT!

So it was a drink on me for the other participants, Judges, Game Keepers and viewers of the Field Trial!

GSP World Championship 2010 Netherlands

The Shooting Field Trial World Championship 2010 for GSP took place in the Netherlands on the 4th and the 5th of October. 28 dogs out seven countries competed during 2 days in the fields with lots of natural game in Gasselte, Stadskanaal, Nieuw Buinen, Ter Maarsch, Nieuwe Pekela for the titels World Champion and Team World Champion.

For the Dutch Team Milano and Omi were selected due to the results in the Field Trials in 2010 and due to previous results. The English team consisted of a full team of Sanjon dogs. Sanjon Arezzo, Sanjon Aramis, handled by Jon Roberts, Sanjon Atilla handled by Andrew Farley and Sanjon Breana handled by Emma Carter.

On the first day Milano ran as one of the first dogs in a difficult field with lots of game. Within the first minute a point on a cockbird was made and he was steady to the shot. We just had to finish the run, but due to the ground where you sometimes lost sight of the dog due to the cover. It went wrong. Those things can happen unfortunately.

Aramis of Jon ran good on the first day but was unable to find game. Atilla handled by Andrew did ok on his beat as well, but was unlucky with the pheasants.

Omi ran as on of the last dogs in Group A of Peter Balhke, Erminio Radice and Dag Teien. Omi started well, and made a solid point of a cockbird. The gun shot the bird and the bird fell 150m in front of us in the field. Omi was perfectly steady on the shot and was sent to retreive. She marked the bird perfectly and provided the bird to hand. Point, flush and retreive was made and just finish the run. She continued her good run, but it went wrong in a creeck where a bird departed. wk_korthaar_Stadskanaal_najaar_2010_116

Sanjon Breana of Emma did better, she made a good point under the judges Henk Companjen, Jocelyne Heageman and Giorgio Gaggero. She finished her run without any problems and was rewarded with the qualification Very Good.

On the second day Omi started perfectly she made a brilliant point but later it went wrong where we had to change the grounds from sugarbiet to potatoes with a small stream in between with lots of riets. A pheasant departed....

Arezzo of Jon stared his beat perfect. Game on point on wich was later a full pack of pheasants. The pack of pheasants started to move and Arezzo blocked them again. When Jon was quite near Arezzo, the pack moved again and departed.

Aramis ran really good on a very hard field. Covered the entire field from edge to edge. Unfortunately Aramis did not find any game on his beat.

Sanjon Breana of Emma started her run good over a stubble field. She went forward to the sugarbiet fields and came on point near the edge of the field at a small creeck. Emma went forward but Breana was unable to hold the bird and flushed.

Milano ran perfectly over a field of potatoes and was asked for a second run. On his second run he did not had the oppertunity to find game!

So the end of the World Championships. On the last day, Milano and Omi ran for an Excellent. Omi was already on the level of Excellent with the point she made. But in Championships you need some luck....

Luckily Ton Slager was rewarded with a 1st Very Good with Argos van de Stroomdrift, so England vs Netherlands was a draw...

Field Trial season in The Netherlands

International Championship Field Trial September 4th 2010

The first Field Trial was organised by the Epagneul Breton Club in Nieuwvliet. Omi and Milano were entered and run under the judges Gert-Jan Scheffer and Willem ten Brinke. Milano started as the 3rd dog after the Epagneul Breton Bruno Rosse de l'Adour of Ad Baijens, who made a point on Pheasants. Milano started well, but was unable to find game.

On Omi's we had more luck, she made a lovely point on a covey of partridge and was 100% steady on the shot. She finished her run without any mistakes. The retreive afterwords was in order and she was qualified with a second Very Good.

National Championship Field Trial September 12th 2010

The Trial was organised by the Dutch Wiredhair Club in the fields of Ijzendijke. Again Omi and Milano were entered. Omi had a lovely first run under judge Pieter Rooijakkers, and was asked for a second run. Unfortunately it went wrong on the game in the tramlines on the sugarbiet fields. Milano ran under the Judge Freddy Indekeu and had a perfect 1st run, and was asked for a second run, where he made a point on a cockbird. The qualification 1st Excellent.

National Championship Field Trial October 1st 2010

The trial was again organised by the Ducth Wiredhair Club. Today Jon ran Sanjon Arezzo and Sanjon Aramis, while I ran Omi and Milano. The judge today was again Freddy Indekeu. Sanjon Aramis made a good solid point on his run, and was qualified with a 3rd Very Good. Omi and Milano ran good aswell both dogs made a point on pheasants. Omi was qualified with a 1st Excellent, and Milano with a 2nd Excellent.

Young Dog Field Trial October 11th 2010

This Young Dog Field Trial was organised by the Dutch GSP Club in our home fields at Roswinkel and Stadskanaal. The terrains were stunning with plenty of wild birds. This day I ran our young promise Isabella van Ryckevelde, daughter of Milano and Malomkozi Sjelsa. Isabelle had to start in the sugarbiet field, but i let her go on the stubble field before the sugarbiet field. She started with a very high intensity and went towards the sugarbiet where she came on point on a pack of pheasants. She was steady to the shot and we could finish the run on a field of rape. She totally took that field apart, hunting with a stunning GSP style and ground control. At the end of the day she was qualified with a 1st Excellent!

Since the Trial Season in The Netherlands is over now, we will continue in Belgium!
